Web pages which are too wide require horizontal scrolling (one of the greatest sins against web usability) and often cannot be printed properly. We look at what can make web pages too wide. Long web pages are seldom a problem.

Things which can make pages too wide

Large tables, especially if their width is fixed.

Large images - images almost always have fixed sizes.

What about long pages and vertical scrolling?

Not such a major problem.

But there are still some things you may have to do to prevent the length of your pages from becoming a usability problem, and we'll look at these after we've finished dealing with page width.
